\nSo we set out to make a box…<\/p>\n

Step 1- Brainstorming and sketching:<\/strong>
\nWe met after we both had time to think about the assignment for a few days. Kang came with beautiful sketches, and I came with a few concepts, and then we just merged everything together.<\/p>\n

We decided to go with Kangs idea of an Hexagon box, and my idea of working with light.<\/p>\n

So we thought of a two layered box. On the inside it would contain light, and between the layers, we could contain liquid.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>We printed 3 sketches out all of the same idea of double layered boxes.<\/p>\n

Step 3: Testing on the laser cutter:<\/strong>
\nWe didn’t realise we were actually were forcing the paper to shape the way we wanted.Though it wasn’t possible with strait lines to actually build the box. We only understood this when we were moved on to use the laser cutter, and we tested on card board.
\nIt was built in an angle that can’t straiten out.
\n\"LaserCutter_Test00\"<\/a> \"LaserCutter_Test01\"<\/a> \"LaserCutter_Test02\"<\/a>Eventually we learnt that the salutation was to brake the lines into triangles. They even out the angle.
\n\"SketchPrint_03\"<\/a>Though we decided not to build the box in this way, because we wanted to build the box out of acrylic, ,and to bend\/glue such a narrow angle from plexiglass would be extremely hard.
\nIt was extremely interesting to see how different it is to work in different materials.<\/p>\n

Step 4: Building out of Plexi Glass:<\/strong>
\nFor the last step we laser cut the body of the box with the laser cutter, and used the lid to be the gig for the glowing.
\nUnfortunately the laser cutter died in the middle, so we ended up cutting the lid and the bottom of the box with the gig saw.
\n\"Build_00\"<\/a> \"Build_01\"<\/a> \"Build_02\"<\/a> \"Build_03\"<\/a> \"Build_04\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

We choose frosted clear plexi, and for the\u00a0bottom\u00a0of the box purple plexi. \u00a0The idea being- instead of putting the light in the box, like we originally set out to do, the light can be from underneath the box, and when lit, the purple colour takes over the box.<\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion:<\/strong>
\nIt was a pleasure to work with Kang!
\nAlthough we had to redefine the idea through out the process, we learnt so much a long the way.
\nWhat you can do with paper, you can’t always do with hard materials.
\nEvery material has it’s own definitions. and you should work with those restrictions, rather then forcing it to be what we wan it to be.<\/p>\n
